So Google sort of supports OpenID.
I just tried signing up for melkjug by putting in
https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id as my OpenID user url and sure enough
melkjug discovered the provider and redirected me to a Google authorization
page where I authorized melkjug. I was then redirected back to melkjug to
create my user id and created the user 'randall'. Logging in works with the
same provider address.
So logging in with your google account is trivial. But how many people know
what they need to put in as a url? Most people who would make use of this
feature probably don't even know what OpenID is.
But something bugs me about putting a Google logo and login sticker up on
the registration and login pages. What are your thoughts?
Side note: A Google authorization might be all we need to add a 'Share on
GReader' button (the lack of which is a barrier to entry for at least a few
of my friends).
